Meet The Director

Chauntee D. Andrews  has been a fixture in the dance world for more than 30 years. She has taught for numerous studios and institutes in the genres of ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, acrobatics, lyrical, contortion and modern. Her choreographic talent has lent her the opportunity to work with many playwrights, like the off broadway adaptation of, For Colored Girls. Vocalist, from solo artist to group artist like Az Yet. These gentlemen were part of the soundtrack for the movie Nutty Professor, starring Eddie Murphy. She has worked for a host of dance companies, both locally and abroad. Her work has been seen in many forms, ranging from dance recitals to full theatre concert dance.

Chauntee has an eye for the dancer’s body and the artistic shapes that it can take on. This talent has afforded her the favorable chance to assist photographers in posing dancers for various photo shoots. Her work has been used for web designs and layouts, posters, fliers, front cover to program booklets and personal photo packages for students and their families. She has worked along side costume book photographers, as well as recognized international dance photographers. Her guidance in these shoots have been showcased several times in Wilmington, DE as part of Art On The Town (Art loop). Drawing large crowds to peer in amazement at the lovely artistry of the dancers.

Chauntee’s ability to fuse concert dance with the competition realm has garnished her students with a remarkable amount of accolades. They have walked away from competitions with top honors repeatedly, and she has been the recipient of many choreography awards. Her noted awards have come from the United States Tournament of Dance on many occasions. She is also the proud recipient of the ACHI Magazine Choreographer of the Year Award. With only three awards given internationally, in 2007, Chauntee was honored with the coveted CARMEN DE LAVALLADE ARTISTIC FELLOWSHIP AWARD presented during the International Stage Concert as part of the New York Dance Festival. Chauntee has also been honnored to be a two time recipient of a Wilmington, DE resolution.

Chauntee’s training years, encompassed education at The Philadelphia School of Dance Arts, which is home to world renown dance company PHILADANCO, under the direction of Joan M. Brown. The High School for Creative and Performing Arts,CAPA, and the University of the Arts. Chauntee reigned as Hal Jackson’s Miss Talented Teen Pennsylvania. She was crowned both on a regional and national level. In addition, she was voted Miss Congeniality by her peers, during her international pageant work.

Chauntee’s performance career ranged from being a showgirl with the circus to concert performances in London.

Today she is proud to be the executive/artistic director of DANCE4LIFE School of the Arts and Training Institute, its’ performance troupes DANCE4LIFE The Experience, DANCE4LIFE The Vision, and DANCE4LIFE The Inspiration. Also director of the dance company, The Delaware Contemporary Dance Theatre. Her dancers have had the honor of performing  for many amazing events. Such as, Mayor Purzycki’s Wilmington Love Event, doing their very own one hour concert at the Rock Lot sponsored by the Creative District Wilm, multiple appearances on Good Morning America, the live broadcast of the Dunkin’ Donuts 6abc Thanksgiving Day Parade, NYC historic Flatiron building, and the Democratic National Convention. Chauntee’s memorable personality and talent drew the attention of L.A. casting directors. She was shopped for her very own reality show, with producers, cameras and crew coming to her studio in Claymont, DE to film the pilot episode.

As Chauntee continues in this field, she looks forward to furthering her life’s work of touching, impacting and guiding her students in self worth and discipline through the multifaceted world of dance.
